Tropical Storm Bill, that is. Bill is here dumping on us. Not much wind but lots of rain. And guess what, we have painters and they can not do much.
But we are collecting a lot of water and there will be flash floods and lots of water damage around us. The lakes are already full, and the rivers had just started to reside and get back to normal and now this. So TV will be full of weathermen, an occasional twister will touch down, and roads will be flooded.
That means yet another gush of water down the Red River towards Louisiana. Those folks around Shreveport may just get flooded again. I know when the water reaches the Atchafalaya River it will not be a problem, the big river can easily handle the flow. And it will have no effect on the Mississippi River at all. So South Louisiana is at no risk, but from Shreveport to Simsport, it ain't gonna be so nice.
Around here it will be yet another disaster. The ranchers are happy, the grass is tall and green and the cattle are fat. So for some it is blessing, for others it will be a wet hell.
We personally are high above the local flood plain. No danger of us getting flooded, but those close to us may indeed suffer. I am sure the Brazos will be out of its banks again and Possum Kingdom Lake will be releasing water down stream. Lake Grandbury will also be releasing water further down the Brazos. Both of those man made lakes are on the Brazos River. There are other similar lakes to the south of us.
Just a few months ago we were facing severe drought, now it is floods. We will have plenty of water for next year, or really the remainder of this year. Next year may or may not be a drought depending on winter rains. At least we do not have use our irrigation well for a while. The St. Augustine grass is loving it. It is spreading like wild fire through out the yard.
Just remember you may get what you wish for. The Texans have wished, nay prayed, for rain. Now they have it and it is literally more than they can handle.
